| My wife and I have enjoyed numerous meals at The Hare, but on Sunday (May 8) we walked out after waiting for a waitress for 15 minutes. Customers who came to the bar or tables after us were served, while we were just left -- not even a drink was offered. | Dined at the Hare 31st March 2011. Waited an hour for the meal. One meal was the traditional golden crust ale pie which came with a complimentary broccoli and stilton soup. The waitress asked if new potatoes mash or chips were wanted with the main meal chips were chosen. Soup was good, home baked bread dry. Golden crust rock hard, uneatable and meat inside grisly and congealed into lumps-no gravy. Chips overdone and hard, carrots and broccoli Ok if crisp. Second meal chosen was chefs salad which was stilton and bacon. The stilton cheese was a few good tasty pieces, however the remaining rock hard matchtick pieces of bacon were mixed with a few salad leaves, 8 croutons and one spring onion and 2 cherry tomatoes. Price 8.95. Turned out the burnt chips were £1 extra! Talked to the chef about the pie who apologised and said they were aware of the poor crust and will be changing it. So why serve it! | A pleasant quiet pub restaurant, although lacking atmosphere. A good range of food on offer, but the portion sizes were too small and lacked the final touches like garnish/butter with the boiled potatoes etc. The Steak was tasty, but for the price, one third of it should have been cut away as it was fat and gristle.
