I visited the Hawthorn Inn on October 6th 2007. The meal was booked for 7.30 although we had to turn up at 6pm to enable them to start cooking for us (large party) We ate at about 8 o clock and I have to say it was the most foulest meal I have ever tasted out. I had the Cajun Chicken with baked potato salad and peas. The salad consisted of half a slice of cucumber, a quarter of tomato and a spoon full of lettuce (very imaginative) the peas were stone cold and the baked potato was so cold the butter wouldnt even soften and raw in the centre! It was foul! My partners steak was like chewing a piece of leather and he the same had stone cold peas and chips. Now my 18 month old daughters sausages were too hot to even pick up! (wheres the logic?) When I complined to a member of staff she said sorry and walked off. So I went up to pay for the edible parts of our meal and complained and the manager turned his nose up and squiffed 'give her money back' no apology! Awful service. Never Again![Report for Removal] N Stokes

We visited the Hawthorn Inn on Thurs 2nd Aug for a birthday celebration, 6 of us attended as a family. We ordered food and were told there would be a 45min wait, which was no problem. We would have preferred waiting a little bit longer had the food been edible! The food arrived within around 25mins of us ordering. Being a vegetarian and not wanting the pasta dish, I had no other option but to order the jacket potato with cheese and beans. This arrived with what I can only describe as those cheese strings that are advertised for kids lunch boxes!! The potato was so rubbery and cold that the cheese had no chance of melting! There was a disgusting taste of washing up liquid in the beans and after 3 mouthfuls, I gave up and sent it back. My father had ordered the salmon which was meant to come lightly dusted with chilli. This however arrived in breadcrumbs and was as cold as the FROZEN peas to accompany it. This was also sent back. Another dish that was ordered were the meatballs....they came in a small dish (all 5 of them) with a small layering of sauce. The penne pasta on the side of the plate had to be sent back to be drained as it was slightly swimming in the water it was been 'boiled' in. This was also left and I have to say - it was the worst presented dish I have EVER seen!!! The gammon was another dish that could not be eaten..... so to say the food was a let down was an under statement but worse than the food was the attitude from the bar staff while asking for a refund on the dishes that could not be eaten! After disputing my claims that the food was not up to standard, one bar member retorted 'Oh just give her her money back!' It was an awful experience and I would advise anyone to think twice about eating and drinking there as it's difficult to say what was worse - the food or the service!!
