| After being advertised as a Gastro Pub, we were expecting great things of the Herdwick Inn. After being sat in a drafty back corner whist choosing from the menu (we kept our coats on!) we were then pointed in the general direction of our table. When our meals arrived (no starters) an hour after we arrived I was very disappointed with my 'rare' steak being very well done. The medium steak my partner had was well done- but less incinerated than my own. I sent mine back and then it came back within 2 minutes- this time not even vaguely warm- obviously brought straight out of the fridge and given 30 seconds on each side. I sent it back as I was not prepared to eat a stone cold slab of meat. The time was more successful- The steak was actually how I had requested. I know steak can be very subjective in the way it was cooked- but this really was unacceptable. The chips were very over cooked, the vegetables cold and the side order of garlic bread tough and overpriced. We not offered any more drinks and mayonnaise took over 5 minutes to arrive. All this could have easily been rectified by an apology, unfortunately this did not happen. When I went to pay (as after our meal we waited for 10 minutes but no-one came near us) I mentioned what had happened and all I got was an excuse that 'blue' steak is difficult to warm. I can not in any way recommend this pub as it is one of the worse dining experiences I have had.
