| Ate here 17 July 2007. Or three of us did, I couldn't eat my fish pie.It didn't smell good,there were bits of potato topping smeared about, the hot dish had been put on top of some of the few salad leaves on the plate, the potato topping was sparse & watery, the white fish was OK but the salmon tasted awful,I think it must have been stale.The menu stated it was served with bread but none appeared. When we asked we were told they'd run out.My husband said his potatoes tasted as if they'd been hanging around for a long time.The other two meals were fine, although one of the portions was rather small. We'd ordered early in the evening but had to wait an hour or so to be served- the staff seemed to have a 'couldn't care less' attitude.We told the staff about the food, but the response was just an unsurprised 'sorry about that'. The evening became chilly, but they insisted on keeping the door at the back propped wide open so it got really cold in the bar. We left & didn't pay for the fish pie. This is such a shame, it's a lovely old building with beautiful views of Ullswater. It's the nearest place to eat to the b&b we were staying in, we'd have been there every evening if it had been good. [Report for Removal] | Sue Thrush Stansted Essex |
