We happened upon this pub today, and, along with my family, decided to have a quick lunch time drink. The bar staff were polite and accomadating. The pub itself, very traditional, with a fire, dart board, and ales. We were unaware that the pub served food when we arrived as there was no sign up outside, but finding that they did, chose to stay for lunch. We chose to have a baguette each, rather than a big meal. The prices were excelent, and each baguette came with chips and salad. The children had choices from the kids menu, the usual kiddie fayre, but also an option of having main meals made smaller - something you see rarely, and a very welcome option! Our food arrived quickly, presented very well, and seeming to be a perfect portion. Then came a bit of a shock - the baguettes were FANTASTIC! My partner had bacon and stilton - it was genourous, and according to him the best bacon he has ever had, with nice chunks of stilton, not the wafer thin slice you expect, myself, i had a steak and onion baguette. It had pleanty of steak, in chunks, cooked perfectly, slightly pink in the middle. It was some of the most tender steak i have ever had, and i didnt have a scrap of fat on it. The meal was perfect in size. My children ate more than they had for ages, with such gusto, i thought the pattern would be lost from the plate. For pudding, the homemade sticky toffee was had, and a 'mud slide' cake. The sticky toffee was the best my mother in law had had for a very long time, and the mud slide cake good too. Again, great portions. Our kids had farmhouse icecream, wich were nicely presented large scoops. Throughout the meal, the staff tended to our needs, checked we were ok at every opportunity, and went above and beyond - with a smile. We all left the ship inn, with a happy glow, and couldnt believe we were raving about a lunch time snack. Withput a doubt, we will be visiting the pub again to try one of the main meals on offer, and very much look forward to doing so. Reading what i have written back, it doesnt do the place justice! I can not express enough how good this experience was!!!! If i had to pick one fault, it would be that it was a little cold in the pub, but the fire was on, and everyone else in my family seemed ok - so it was probebly just me! [Report for Removal] lucy
