Rarely have I come away from a restaurant having decided not to go there again but the Five Bells has this distinction. Why - because they have no regard for their customers' wishes. While in the bar before the meal, I spotted my dessert on the specials board but when I asked for it, I was told that, because it was part of the bar menu, I could not have it. This was simply not negotiable. The main course was good - but not nearly good enough to tempt me back.[Report for Removal] Brian Maskell

My first impression of the Five Bells was that the pub was homely, warm and inviting – we were proved right, when greeted by friendly staff. From the moment we stepped foot in the pub, the service was friendly and attentive, without being intrusive, they have got the balance right between being a pub, yet providing restaurant standard service. Unlike most venues, in my opinion, you can choose the type of experience you have. Either enjoy a relaxed meal in the bar areas (and enjoy the open fire as we did) or you can take yourself into the slightly more formal, restaurant area. Whichever area you choose, there is an excellent choice of food and drink, once again, there is an ‘option’, order a fantastic three course meal or take a more relaxed approach and enjoy some of the ‘pub classics’ that you would expect from such a traditional venue. In terms of quality, I can only describe the food as ‘Awesome’, on this my first, but buy no means last visit, I had the lamb and it was as good as I have tasted, really tender and melted like butter. I understand that the current owners are fairly new to the pub, but what a start, they are clearly passionate about food and have a keen eye for the way a restaurant should be run, even if from the outside, it looks like a pub. I think it’s for this reason that I love the place. Sure, we have lots of country pubs serving restaurant style food, but I challenge you to find one better than this, I haven’t. I look forward to returning again soon, very soon. One not to be missed!! [Report for Removal] Mark Butcher

Lovely atmosphere, excellent food and service and good live jazz on Friday nights. I wish this were our local. We always bring guests here when they come to stay (the Americans love it!) However, I do agree with the previous reviewer about the dog - it's a very good-natured animal but shouldn't be anywhere near people eating.[Report for Removal] Anna Crabtree

My friend and I visited this pub on 28 April for a drink. The pub was extremely busy with diners. We sat on a sofa and listened to live jazz, which was very pleasant. However, the following morning I counted 10 flea bites on my upper leg! The pub's dog was roaming around the entire evening which we commented upon at the time as it seemed rather unhygienic with all the food being served. One assumes this dog uses the sofa during the day - yuk! Animals and food does not mix but fleas and food? Unthinkable![Report for Removal] Julie Waite
