| really shocked by the other reviews - it must have changed hands as everything they said was completely contradicted by my experience today... went for Saturday lunch, excellent food from a large menu (although I wouldn't take a veggie there - only one veggie main course). Very good value of money, good potions, and all three courses were well cooked and presented. Very good service, lovely waitress and everybody helpful. | We visited the Willett Arms for Sunday lunch on my husband's birthday as we had to collect our son from a friend's home in Merley. The portions were insufficient for an average appetite. The vegetables to share between us for example were served on a small gratin dish the size used for a starter! (The broccoli was one piece that we had to divide up ourselves). The gravy was obviously thickened not reduced because it had a shiny gelatinous appearance and texture and the yorkshire pudding was sticky and stodgy inside. I like to think of pudding as an optional extra not an essential! The chocolate tart was very rich and the mousse part was fine.... the base - I was not sure whether it was soggy biscuit or soggy pastry. The staff seemed professional but not overly genuine in their friendliness and tense (only way I can describe it) The pub advertises on its website that you can come and enjoy their papers so we turned up about 11.30 thinking to do just that only to be told that Sunday is the only day that they don't open at 11.00am.... We were not the only ones to be caught out by this - there were three other groups of people waiting too. | First visit to the willett arms, we had a meal from the value menu,i asked for mayonase with my meal, this turned up in a small pot which had been used for the butter at a previous sitting. The butter was still in the bottom of the pot. Service was good until after the main course the plates were cleared by another waitress who failed to ask if we needed anything else, we left without a sweet or coffee and will be crossing it off our list of places to come back to. | Really poor service in the restuarant area, kept waiting for ages and it wasn't that busy. Vegetarian main courses are very small and required a side dish as well as they don't come with anything. | No welcome,nobody to show you to table, or explain whether bar or table service. Take it or leave it attitude, horrific decor - old plank wood partitions, with dangerous sharp edges. An expensive limited choice menu, with some basics - Fish for example - not available. Specials menu board hidden around corner. This Pub/Restaurant is not worth a visit.
