| The George is a perennially popular pub in a delightful situation next to the canal. I've been going there on and off for years and there's a pattern - I'll go once, twice, three times in a row and then have a dreadful experience, swear never to go again and leave about five years to the next visit. In fairness to the pub the food and beer aren't bad, but the customer service is probably the worst I've ever experienced, anywhere. Some highlights include: * Waiting for ages (seriously, 15-20 minutes) at the bar almost every visit because there are never, never enough staff on. * After a main course and whilst considering dessert we were told we had to leave because they needed the table. Basically we were thrown out just so they can cram some more customers through the table. * They only serve pub snacks in the garden, but they refused - even on a quiet day - to let us sit in the garden until our food was ready. We had to sit indoors the whole time. * Being told we had to move - on a very busy day - because they had to clean the kitchen and we were next to the door. There were no other tables so we had to leave. * Having to wait an age for food on a Mothers' Day outing even though all the tables were pre-booked and they knew the numbers that were going to be coming. Still want to go? Don't say you weren't warned. I can only presume the pub remains popular because of the tourist trade coming along the canal.
