| HI ALL I HAD A PHONE CALL OFF THE NEW TENANT OF THE CHURCH INN YESTERDAY, ONE OF MY FORMER SUPPLIERS PAST ON MY NUMBER TO HER. HER NAME IS VICKY, A NICE GIRL ABOUT 30 Y/O, SHE SHOWED ME ALL OVER THE PUB. AND AS I THOUGHT LEE LEFT THE PUB IN A TERRIBLE STATE, SHE AS A UP HILL STRUGGLE ON HER HANDS. SHE IS HOPING TO OPEN AGAIN IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO. I WISH HER THE BEST OF LUCK; SHE IS THE FORMER TENNANT OF THE CITY TAVERN JUST OFF BROAD ST. | I WENT TO THIS PUB LAST WEEK AT LUNCH TIME IT WAS CLOSED, THE NEXT DAY I WENT AGAIN AND IT WAS STILL CLOSED, I TRIED AGAIN ON THE SAME EVENING AND IT WAS OPEN. I WISH I HAD NOT BOTHERED, THE PLACE IS THE PITTS, DIRTY, SMELLY, AND UNINVITING. | I am putting this place as only above average at the moment because of the state of it which I know is down to i being given a well earned 'face lift'. This does not reflect the beer which I too like the last gent have never found to be cloudy. I did find that there seemed to be a little neglect from the last owners after the previous long term owners had left. They didn't even change the previous licensee's name above the door; which is illegal after such a long time in situ. However, I have had a chat with the present owner/licensee and hope to 'upgrade' my opinion when he has his pub up and running after renovation. | Just looked at the time and date on Mark Lewis' review. Maybe he caught the very end of the previous licensee, and his comment about rude staff is therefore valid. | The previous reviewer must be referring to a different pub. The beer at The Church has never been cloudy (I've been a regular there for almost 3 years), and the present staff are certainly not rude. The pub has been in new hands for about 3 weeks, and they are putting a huge amount of effort into reversing the neglect it suffered under the previous licensee.[Report for Removal] | Andy Ellis Birmingham West Midlands |
