A traditional country riverside pub with history dating back to the days of sailing ships and pirates. The Shipwrights is a listed building anddates back over 350 years. The Shipwrights Hotel features 5 En-suite rooms, which are comfortably furnished. Open 7 days a week for great food and drink, the Shipwrights Hotel is a very popular venue in both the day and night.

We are in the good food guide and have been in CAMRA'S real ale guide for the past 24 years, one of only three pubs throughout England to achieve this accolade. A well stocked bar with a good selection of beers, wines and spirits ensures you are spoilt for choice when drinking at the Shipwrights. In years gone by men were press ganged into the navy from here, well there is no need to be 'pressed' to go to the Shipwrights it is a popular venue both day and night.

Seperate non-smoking restaurant

The Shipwrights features a seperate non-smoking restaurant where you can enjoy the same great selection of food. In former days it was a coaching house on the way to Durham via the river road. There was at one time 14 pubs from here down to the Alexandra bridge area. we are not haunted, we like to think of The Shipwrights as a 'Happy House'. At low tide you can still see the slipway where they built sailing ships & lanched them, opposite on the south side of the river.
