The Sir Colin Campbell is unique. Not only is it (we believe) the only pub of that name in the country, but it is also one of the few that is built on stilts. Standing on the banks of the River Severn, close to Gloucester's historic docks area, the stilts ensure that the pub is safe from the threat of flooding. It gets its name from a British field-marshall from the 19th Century who led the Highland Brigade at Balaclava in the Crimea War and was later Commander-in-Chief during the Indian Mutiny. The original pub has long since gone and was replaced by the current structure after the Second World War - reputedly in the space of 48 hours. Reputations, however, take longer to build and The Sir Colin Campbell has worked hard to make the pub what it is today - a friendly pub which caters for a range of tastes and different ages. Customers are encouraged to bring the whole family. Variety is also the key on the menu and food is served both at lunchtimes and the evening. All in all, the pub is an unusual one that is well worth a visit. Even Sir Colin Campbell, we think, would agree with that.
