The George stands right in the middle of Frome on the Market Square. Originally it was a Coaching Inn on the route from London to Bristol. Today one of the few residential Hotels in the area and the only one in the centre of the town and is popular with Business people and Holidaymakers alike. The accent is on style and elegance combined with the homely atmosphere of a family run hotel, with good wholesome food, excellent wines and real ales. Recently entirely refurbished each beautifully furnished room has private facilities, satellite TV, Direct dial telephone, four channel radio, trouser press and hair dryer. The hotel has it’s own secure garage, and there are ample public car parking facilities nearby. Also available is a fax and photocopying service. The Bars The St.Georges Bar is a popular rendezvous for local residents and business folk. With it’s pleasing décor and cosy ambience, and, always on tap a selection of real ales the bar is an ideal place to while away the time. An appetising choice of hot and cold bar meals and snacks are available at lunchtime and in the evenings. The restaurant bar is also open to all where one can enjoy an aperitif or glass of wine and after meals a cognac or liqueur, these may also be taken in the comfortable lounge which adjoins. Frome Frome was founded about thirteen hundred years ago by monks from the abbey of Malmesbury. Then, merely a settlement, the town grew up around it and, over the centuries, developed into the busy market centre it is today. In medieval times Frome was prominent in the manufacture of cloth on which rested its prosperity, this alas, is a thing of the past but a variety of other modern industries have taken its place, nevertheless the town retains an essential rural character.
