| We had a prebooked and simple menu for 60 people on a weekday evening. Food for the majority arrived from 8.35. Service continued to be embarrassingly slow despite apologies of two (only) young waiters. Food practically inedible, lots being left on plate. Salmon(?) tasteless on mushy potatoes; hard peas and dry steak pie; burnt-to-a-cinder steak, whether ordered medium or rare. Limited stocks of deserts (all cold) apart from ice cream. My own creme brulee - which arrived after the second time of ordering- was an unpleasantly-tasting custard beneath the sugar top. No hint of cream. Party gave up on ordering coffee- they couldn't stand the wait. Manager, apparently, on holiday. The meal was a great disappointment as the group likes to support local businesses.
