I have eaten 3 times at the canal since the reopening in oct 09 and must praise the excellent food. Served by pleasant and helpful staff. All in a very lovely surroundings. Well worth a visit. [Report for Removal] Amanda Reeves

The Canal Inn has now re-opened under NEW Management (Opened last Tuesday). We called in today Tues 20th Oct, had a look around - having checked the Menu, we will be back to try the food. Will rate it after next visit. P&S Curry Rivel.[Report for Removal] Paul Rendell

Unfortunately this pub now seems to have closed. I haven't been in for a while and I am sure the new owners tried hard but probably weren't supported by the locals. Last time it closed, it was re opened by a couple who transformed it. I think it won Pub of the Year, it had a sunday market, real ales, very good food etc. Oh well another one bites the dust. People like Nicki Baxter soon won't have any pubs to complain about! By the way, they used to do the BEST rib of beef sandwiches on a Sunday!..complete with gorgeous fat! poped into the canal inn to have lunch with a friend recently, asked for some food to be told the bar lady could not leave the bar becuase she was alone working, at 1.30 of a lunch time when people would be wishing to eat. i have been in this pub befor for drinks, and have found the bar lady to be rude and obnoxios and unplesant to be around. i would not reccomed this pub unless it was within walking distance of your home and you were not wishing to drive, there are many nice pubs around that are willing to serve you food and do not look put out when you enter to spend your money![Report for Removal] anne

The worset lunch ever. I have had a number of very good meals at this pub and frequently recommended but sadly no more. When attending with a number of ladies for a book club lunch and ordering a beef sandwich I was served with what could only be described as a lard sandwich. Each sandwich had about 6 slices of fat with only about 5 - 10% beef content. I did not complain when the food arrived as I did not want to spoil the lunch for the other ladies and therefore persevered with trying to separate the tiny bits of beef from the fat. I struggled to eat one sandwich and left the other with the pile of fat (about 100gramms)on the plate. When the plates were collected I told the landlady I was very sorry but the sandwich really was not very nice. She asked why and I pointed out the fat and she just replied that was to be expected with rib of beef. So if you want a lard sandwich this is the place to go.[Report for Removal] Nicky Baxter
