| Nice location for a quiet lunch. The staff were very hospitable. The chicken burger and chicken Kiev ordered by my wife and I were well cooked and served with some real good chips. I certainly would go again if I were in the area at lunch time. [Report for Removal] | Shashi Kiran Durham County Durham |

| It was so interesting reading how other people had received bad service from this place, i too had a very bad experience i come to Sunderland twice a year and during my last visit i was working in South Hylton and i was unlucky enough to take a few friends into the Golden Lion the manager was one of the rudest people i have evr met and he was very aggresive from the moment i ordered my first drink. The food was awful and when i complained all i was met with was insults, i travel the whole of the country working and i have to say this is the worst pub i have ever been in. I guess we will get the usual excuses and denials but i only hope the owners of this establishment get these people on a catering course and teach them some customer service skills. Bon appetite NOT![Report for Removal] | mark reed Wigan lancs |

| With regard to the 60th birthday on the 11th July. First of all the reason why we where not in on the day was because unfortunately we had been attending a friends funeral. We admit the scampi was not up to scratch, this was out fault as we had purchased the wrong kind, scampi bites as appose to wholetail scampi. As far as the children are concerned it was half past ten on a Friday night and there were children running around the pub and up and down stairs which in turn led to complaints from regular customers. One customer in particular heard one of the women tell the children to pretend they felt sick while in the toilets. By no means would we expect any children to play outside in a car park but at the same we would not expect children to be playing around in a public house at 10.30pm. There is a restriction to children being on the premises after 9.00pm but due to the fact it was a family meal we made an exception. The meal was refunded in full due to complaints even though the majority of the meals had been eaten. As far as aggressive behaviour goes one of the party jarred a plate into a member of staff, which left a bruise, both the barmaid and the waitress where both close to tears because of the way they were being treated. The manager did offer one man out in the car park; this was because the man pushed me out of the way to get down the stairs with his disabled son. Overall I think the attitude towards my staff was a disgrace, we should have been here on that night and this kind of behaviour would not have been tolerated but as I mentioned earlier we had to attend a funeral. The Manageress, The Golden Lion. [Report for Removal] | Rachael Logan Sunderland Tyne & Wear |

| On Friday evening 11 July 2008 my wife and disabled son and myself attended a friends 60th birthday celebration at the Golden Lion in South Hylton. When the meals were served the majority of the people at the party complained of one thing or another regarding their meals My wife chose Scampi for her meal and she complained that the meal tasted "funny" and had an unusual smell. She was asked if she would like the Scampi replaced and agreed so long as it came from a different packet to the first serving, this exchange never arrived. My son's meal Chicken Kiev was ok, my order was Chicken Tika but I was served Chicken Kiev, the Kiev was very dry and not easy to eat so I left it. Some people continued to complain but not in an agressive manner and eventually, I thought, everything was "sorted". Then after about 20/30 mins a suited man and a woman entered demanding, rather loudly, to know "who was making the complaints". They were both obviously the worse for drink. The birthday girl stood up and started to outline her complaint when the man again in a loud manner said "Well what do you want from me" "Do you want your money back" and then argued agressively with the birthday girl. The suited man and the woman were also argueing amongst themsselves He stood at the end of our table and counted out the birthday girls money, thumping the notes down on the table in a very agressive manner and then told everyone to "get out of his pub and don't come back" As we were beginning to leave the suited man actually offered one of the guests "Out into the car park" As we left the pub I learned that the suited man had put the children, aged between 5 years and 15 years, out of the pub into the car park before he told everyone else to leave, so the children were out in the car park, in the dark, without any parental supervision. Not exactly the actions of a careing person. This man conducted himself in a very very ill mannered way exhibiting absolutely no customer relationship skills what so ever. Personally I would just like to thank him for ruining someones birthday party We were previously told that their chef had recently walked out on them and if this is some of the type of treatment that he had to put up with then it would come as no supprise.[Report for Removal] | Syd Sunderland Tyne & Wear |

| Was out for a family night out 11 children from the ages from 5 to 15 also had a disabled child boy with us, the service was not upto standard and the food was either cold, hard, frozen, or off. My partner never even got his meal. The manager of the pub has got no manners at all. He man handled the children down the stairs and told all of us to get out of his pub, his staff have got no manners either, not a friendly pub at all.[Report for Removal] | Joanne Sunderland Tyne & Wear |
