We are happy to say that, in less than 2 months and with steadfast support from our wonderful locals, we have restored the Augustus John to its former glory. So lovely to see so many old faces - and many new ones too. Good food, friendly and efficient service and a very warm welcome awaits you!! It's amazing how a once-excellent source of food can go so far downhill. Tried lunch. My king-prawn stir-fry (£12.95) wasn't a stir-fry -- merely heated prawns in a sweet-chilli sauce, served with (properly-cooked) rice and a pretty bland salad. It was at least edible, which is more than can be said for my wife's Thai chicken curry (£9.95). This appeared to have been reheated at least once: the chicken, the mange-tout, the carrot and the mini-corn-cobs turned to mush with a little attention from a fork. What was once such a lovely place to go has recently been spoiled by the new land-lady. The words "hostile" and "aggressive" suggest themselves but somehow still fall short of the unwelcoming demeanor of the new tenant. I have frequented this establishment for almost 15 years and find it very hard to have to write a negative review. However, the place has taken a turn for the worse with some very "dodgy" clientell.
