| We went to the rising sun during a visit to Lacock. The views from the garden were breathtaking. The sunset over Chippenham really does set the scene for a wonderful evening. We came on a wednesday night and were treated to some live music from what was a typical country pub. We asked for some food, the kitchen was closed however the landlady popped into the kitchen for us as we had not eaten all day. She knocked up a lovely wiltshire ham baguette with some chips and a nice salad, at a reasonable price may I add. We spent the rest of the evening drinking a couple of bottles of red wine and, and even joined in with the singing and frivolities. Lovely friendly pub that we will be re visiting. | We arrived at around 6pm on Saturday, after a lovely afternoon wandering around the historic town of Lacock. The view from the garden was breathtaking and we were just in time to see the sun go down over the far away hills. When we walked through the very quaint side door, we were greeted with smell of a proper wood fire and the sight of some very large stakes being delivered to a near by table. The inside of the pub was typically "pub like". We were greeted at the bar by a rather bubbly lady, who talked us through the selection of beers they had, "all brewed by moles" she even let us have a few free samples before we decided on 2 pints of Best. we were fortunate enough to get a table right next to the fire and had a look through the menu, I must admit that I was sold on the steak as soon as I walked through the door and my dinner d guest went for Chicken wrapped in bacon, with a black rat and stilton sauce. We ordered at the bar and waited around 15 mins, time for another Best, before it was delivered, by a friendly waitress. My steak was as I asked for, medium rare and cooked to perfection, the chips were plentiful, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, a nice side salad and some very tasty button mushrooms completed the meal. The chicken was lovely, soft and succulent and the stilton and black rat sauce was to die for, I wish I had ordered some to accompany my steak. We unfortunately had no time for pudding, as our coach was leaving soon for home. All i can say is what a wonderful pub, lovely Beer, great food, beautiful views, friendly staff and locals, we will be back! [Report for Removal] | Andy Fox Bristol Bristol |

| We booked a table for Sunday lunch for three including a child seat. What a big mistake although we booked a child seat they had none…. We both ordered beef roast; it came in a bowl (strange). The food was awful, the meat was chewy and tasteless, carrots were over cooked therefore tasteless, the roast potatoes mainly fine except for one that was over cooked. The minute roast pudding was tasteless and flat. The waitress asked if the meal was ok which I told her that it was awful but the chef never came out to discuss… its debateable if they really employ a chef. Sunday roast costs £8.95, you have been warned! I should have read Bob’s review below… [Report for Removal] | Ian Bristol Bristol |

| Have just got home after a lovely day out with friends. We travelled from Cardiff and they travelled from Reading meeting at the Rising Sun for lunch, what a disaster ! The Roast of the day was beef, chewy and tasteless, the accompanying vegetables were cold and tasteless, and the yorkshire pudding !!! I don't know how they dare call it that. To add insult to injury it was all smothered in the most tasteless and greasy gravy. I have never complained about a Sunday roast before but I must say that I found it quite inedible. As we were with friends celebrating a birthday we didn't complain at the time but most definitely should have ! Lacock is a beautiful village attracting many, many visitors so I should imagine that we were not the only ones who made the mistake of choosing this Pub to meet up as the views from the garden are superb, but having read the other reviews the management seem to have had ample time to sort out their problems so they have no excuse. What a shame but you have been warned ![Report for Removal] | Bob Cardiff Cardiff Wales |

| I have never left a review for a pub or restaurant but my trip to the Rising Sun last night has encouraged me to do so. It was fairly quiet last night with only a few others eating. I was trying to choose what to have from the menu when I noticed the waitress bring out a steak for another table which wasn't on the menu and I can only assume it was on a specials board that I couldn't see. Anyway I decided to order the steak but was told there were none left, oh well, I then went for the vegetable bake instead. Our food arrived in good time and I was shocked to see that I had enough vegetable bake on my plate to eat in one mouthful, it was tiny. I then noticed I had 5 homemade chips and a mountain of salad. This meal was £11.50 which is shocking. Also a group of 5 sat at a table close to ours just before our food was served, they probably got to the pub approx 45 minutes after us. I was shocked to see that when they had their food served, steak was one of the meals. Hang on, I thought they had ran out of steak and they ordered nearly an hour after us. Very dissapointing meal, will not be returning and will be spreading the word to family and friends. [Report for Removal] | Ash Chippenham Wiltshire |

| Rising Sun ruined my 26th birthday 'thanks alot', must be down to new mangement i guess, food was poor and frankly you would recieved better at a hungry horse pub, no soups as starters, not a single chicken dish. Could hear staff out the back chatting and their music in the kitchen....no music for diners! What a shame 'was' a nice place to visit, will make sure all our friends and family and whoever else avoid this pub like the plague.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PUB dispointing night out.[Report for Removal] | shell melksham wilts |

| Had Lunch here today. The location was lovely, the food was fine, well cooked and portions were adequate.(Though we would prefer to eat our main course off a plate and not out of a bowl.) The prices were reasonable. The staff were friendly and curtious. However, Tables were only laid with cutlery for the main course, and when starters or sweets were ordered the cutlery was not brought to the table until after the courses had arrived, and then only when staff were reminded in some instances. Condiments like mustard were not to hand and took too long to fetch from wherever they were kept. A waitress dropped the Teaspoon she had brought with the mustard and on picking it up off the floor placed it straight on the table, only replacing it after a comment was passed. We waited an inordinate amount of time for a coffee but the bill came quickly once I had managed to catch someones eye. I would have liked to have had a word with whomever was in charge but there didn't seem to be anyone overseeing the front of house. All in all what could have been a very pleasant eating experiance was let down by a few easily avoided problems. I did not leave a tip, but here is one now :- INVEST IN A BIT OF STAFF TRAINING, IT WILL PAY DIVIDENDS IN THE END.[Report for Removal] | Terry Trowbridge Wiltshire |

| I used to work here during the good old days of 2004, its always a busy pub on fridays and saturdays but the food used to be unbeatable. Went there a month ago just after new management had taken over, while the menu was much reduced in volume it was still to a high standard and came pretty quickly. I can say from experience though that during busy times when customers who have booked early tables arrive late it causes delays for the whole night, that is probably the reason for the other reviewers poor service. Going again tonight, and will do another review to let you know if it was a shaky early performance or if the new management are going to ruin the place. In summer the pub has the best views from the beer garden and theres nothing quite as nice as having a pint or two and watching hot air balloons go past![Report for Removal] | Tom Calne Wiltshire |

| I learnt that the Pub had changed hands recently and was interested in dining there. I phoned and spoke to a lady who said she was the new landlady and that they had previously run the Moon and Sixpence in Bath and the Glassboat in Bristol. So I booked a table for the Saturday night 6/9/08. We turned up as arranged at 7:30 and it was packed. I decided to order straight away due to the number of people in the bar and out the back garden. Anyway we waited until ten to ten until our starters came out. Dreadful. What complete incompetence, they had taken orders from too many people and couldn't cope. This is the sign of greediness and immaturity. The food was okish, nothing special. They handed me the full bill at the end of the evening, as they did with most others who waited hours, without any apology or reduction. I haggled and managed to get one of the main courses knocked off. DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB, you've been warned![Report for Removal] | steve corsham wilts |
