Unfortunately, the attitude of the manager Celine and owner Johnny cannot make up for what potentially could be a beautiful pub in a delightful setting. Ungracious, rude, threatening and insulting would be accurate descriptions of their behaviour. I wrote a letter of complaint following a celebratory meal recently and the response I received was completely unprofessional, derogatory and highly offensive (I can provide the letter on request). A very disappointing affair indeed. Praise, however, to the overworked waiting staff, who tried their best with their haughty and demanding manager overruling them at every turn. If you appreciate good customer service, avoid at all costs.[Report for Removal] Kathy Holford

Rude, disgraceful manners, very poor service. One to avoid. My close friend had excitedly planned for weeks to use this venue as a secret get-together for 15 friends. He had planned to go on a local walk with his girlfriend and pop the question; the newly engaged couple were then to retire to the Perch where the rest of us would be waiting to surprise her. 2 weeks earlier, he had booked a table for 15 for 3pm, but due to people being able to rearrange work commitments, a table for 17 was needed. Not a problem you would have thought, close friend can easily squeeze an extra 2 onto a table of this size. It did however, take 45 minutes before we were shown through. What followed on couldn't have been more disappointing. The obviously very excited fiancee was told to keep quiet, initially by a pleasant waitress, however, just as the food arrived, late and lukewarm, the Manageress threatened everyone who wasn't eating a main course to leave and move into the bar. This accounted for 4 people; incidentally, they were waiting to have pudding, not that this was asked. She was even rude enough to say to the fiance that he had 2 options, up and leave, but still pay the bill as they had his credit card, or sit down and shut up. With no choice, we opted to eat our meal. The owner then arrived. By now the happy couple were just trying to eat their meal and make the most of their special day. My friend asked if he could speak to him after they'd finished; the owner said that would be okay, just tell the Manageress and she would go and get him. After eating we paid up, minus tip, and requested to see the owner. The Manageress who must now have realised how disgraceful her behaviour had been, refused to allow us to see the owner. I can only hope she is ashamed of herself, but going by her behaviour I'd be surprised. We walked to the White House Pub, 10 mins away, and they were fantastic. We all manged to have our puddings and champagne in a friendly environment.[Report for Removal] Jamie

very unfriendly and arrogant management. We tried to organize a party in the Perch but after a phone call, 2 emails and a trip to the restaurant (were we eat at more than 20 pounds per head per dish, the manager made us wait 40 min before meeting us, we also discovered that our reservation was canceled without our knowledge, which suggest that they are very disorganized too (besides being plain rude), not very good for a service business.[Report for Removal] lilly
