| This used to be our "local" prior to moving from the locality and we returned after 30 years to enjoy a meal.....we were served a piece of over-cooked bacon masquerading as a gammon. Our polite remonstration was met with silence........this was a truly great pub that has been sadly transformed into a second rate restaurant. | Called in for lunch, passing by on the way back from Guildford. Approached the bar, 4 staff avoiding any form of eye contact and one customer. Eventually someone asked if they could help, we said we would like to order drinks and food, were told abruptly to find a table first. So we did, first finding the dangerously broken one in the garden! Found another, decided what to order and went back to the bar. The same, staff behind the bar too busy talking amongst themselves and avoiding customers. Eventually someone decided we were worth their attention and we started to order. Told (again bluntly) that one of the items wasn't available, staff member then turned their back on us! Decided on alternative, took drinks to garden. Went back in to ask for parasol for the table. Completely ignored for 5 minutes, eventually told none available. Upsides - the food came promptly and was OK. The lad who brought the food was professional and positive but he was very much the exception. All very much spoilt by unhelpful, sullen staff who need some serious training on how to deal with customers.[Report for Removal] | Alan Briggs Camberley Surrey |

| Well I'm not surprised by other comments on this site. An absolute atrocious meal with service to match, The White Hart has been slowly going down hill since I first went there 18 months ago. The worst part is if you actually complain there you are intimidated and tret with aggression. It is a place which was once very nice and now a place I would never go back to. New management/staff required.[Report for Removal] | Chris Phillips Woking Surrey |

| oh this is such a shame, been a regular of the white hart for the last 18 months, it used to be the perfect pub, what happened. Foolishly I went back twice this weekend and each time it was horrific, yesterday waited 30 minutes for first drink with my girlfriend (supposed to be a little perk as we knew Rita, she said she would take care of us) The wine spritzer with lemonade was warm, no ice and completely flat. Today however..oh dear.....everyone was pissed off, moody and overworked. I loved the staff there, Dennis, Kiriel, Elvira, Shaun,Rita, what has happened you guys!!!!! Todays food was beyond bad, starters came out and then 35 minutes later the mains, my kids were hot and flaking. Then the ploughmans, my god, tiny, warm, sweaty cheese, 1 little onion, a hot pork pie in crumbly pastry, warm piccalilly. All was disgusting and i am sad to say I will have to find a new pub. No ale on tap and the fosters was out, oh guys what a shame, it was such a great pub and Andrew instead of chatting with his buds at the bar should actually figure this pub out. A case of great, awesome staff and terrible shoestring budget management. I am starting to hope that it all fails and someone else buys it to get it back to the old days..... Really sad!!!!!!![Report for Removal] | Mike B Woking surrey |

| Not really sure what has happened to the White Hart. My boyfriend and I have been regular diners at the pub over the last three years and unfortunately the food and service has gone down hill dramatically. Last night we went for a meal (the first time in about 6 months) and we were disappointed to see that the menu was exactly the same as it was the last time we came. A few years back, the menu changed almost daily offering great variety. Now the menu (although nice) is getting a little tired and the portion sizes seem to have reduced to half the size they used to be. Afraid we will probably not be going back for a while as the cost of the food and the length of the journey into Pirbright are no longer justified. | Sad to see that there are a number of people that have had similarly bad experiences here. Great looking pub, with a good beer / wine list, let down terribly by the food and service. We went on an admitidly busy bank holiday weekend, and were told that there was a 35 minute wait for main courses, which was fine as we weren't in a hurry. We ordered some bread with oil & vinegar to tide us over (which took 40 minutes to appear) After an hour we asked a waitress if she could tell us how much longer our mains would be (she disappeared) 90 minutes later our mains arrived, but we were left massively underwhelmed by a dry burger and a steak (that was cooked ok but let down by the mustard sauce covered cling film that was left on top) Looking around the restaurant there were scores of similarly disappointed diners around us. The customer service was non existent and the only good thing was that after a serious amount of haggling, they didn't charge us for our main courses. their excuse..? they were busy...isn't the aim of any restaurant to be busy?! I'd advise eating somewhere else. [Report for Removal] | Kate West End Surrey |

| I wish I had read these comments before going to the White Hart last night. I went with 4 of my friends for our "ladies night out" - it was awful! I have never been to such an rubbish restaurant. We arrived at 8 o'clcok and had booked a table just in case it was busy, but it was not, there were several tables free. No-one told us you had to go to the bar to order the food, so we sat there for half an hour until we got fed up waiting, we were totally ignored by the staff. I went up with one of my friends to put in the order, we just chose the starter and main as we were not sure if we could manage a pudding and we ordered the wine. The wine was plonked in a cooler and were given a tray of five large glasses for us to carry back to our table!! A bit shocked at having to do this we went back to our table. Half an hour later a young lad came to the table to say there was no liver pate would we like to choose something else for the starter (It was the one to share) so we chose some mushrooms. A little while after this the cutlery arrived on a plate and just plonked on the table and left for us to help ourselves. Half past nine and the starters arrive, only 3 plates for 4 share and the waiter shot off before we could mention any thing - so we made do. Mixed starter was not particularly very good - instead of goats cheese and pesto sauce they had given us camenbert which does not go very well with pesto sauce and the cray fish was just like dried up prawns. The olives were quite nice though. Anyway, it was gone ten o'clock before the main course came I had ordered sticky honey chicken and chips, which I wish I hadn't - it was so tough and dry I think it must have been cooked yesterday and had been warmed up ! and it was served with cheap and nasty oven chips and a tiny garnish of shredded lettuce. My friends choice had been a little better, however the fish cakes practically came on their own with a sauce - not much of main meal! when we had finished the manager (I think he was the manager) came over and asked us if everything was ok - I said no actually and showed him my chicken, so he said oh no problem I'll get the chef to knock you out another one. I pointed out that my friends had finished now and that I didn't want to eat on my own and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off without an appology. The young girl came over and took our plates and asked if were were going to have pudding, we said yes and we started looking at the menu. We expected her to come back and take our order. Well, she did not. So we thought it was a bit late anyway, we would settle for coffee - the place was dead and no one to ask. We got fed up waiting so we went to the bar to pay the bill. We complained about my food and that we should get a discount. He said he did offer to do another chicken but as I pointed out it was a bit late and it should have been checked before it came out. So he did have the decency to take it of the bill. We also pointed out that no one bothered to take our order for pudding or coffee and between 5 of us that would have been a nice order from us money wise - but because of their stupidity they lost out - SEND IN GORDON RAMSEY!!!! Unless it changes hands I will never set foot in that place again!![Report for Removal] | Maxine Alvis Woking Surrey |

| When we arrived on Saturday 4 October 2008 we went to the bar to order food to be told very abruptly that we had to find a table first, which we did. When we returned to the bar the same bar person (man) took our order, we should have taken from his attitude that everything was going to go wrong but we were hungry and brushed it off. We returned to our table to wait for the food and wait we did. Almost an hour! My friend asked at the bar where the food was, no response. I also asked at the bar where the food was..... the bar person (I believe his name was Dennis) walked off into the kitchen and didn't return. Another lady behind the bar shouted to me that the food was ready. I said if it wasn't we wanted to leave. I was ignored. I returned to the table to get our things together to leave when a waitress came over, I again asked where the food was. I said that if the food wasn't ready we wanted to leave, she asked if we had been told when we ordered that there was a 45 minute delay to which we replied "NO!!!". She left to check the situation and again we waited and waited, when she finally came back she had the food which was only lukewarm but as we had waited for an hour we were so hungry we just ate. When the same waitress came back to take our plates she asked how the food was, we said we were very disappointed she said "oh, thats a shame". No offer of desserts or drinks as an apology. I work in a pub myself and the friends I was with are actually landlords of a pub. If I worked as the staff at the White Hart in Pibright work I would be seriously harming my friend's business. If anyone asks me to recommend a pub in the area of Pirbright I will definitely not be recommending the White Hart, if anything I will tell people to avoid the place! | We discovered The White Heart 3 years ago when we moved into the area and loved it so much we go back regularly. We also have friends who travel on a sixty mile round trip from London twice a month to go there. However, despite all our great experiences there, nothing prepared us for the disaster we had there on Sunday 31st August 2008. From the moment it took the bar staff ten minutes to serve us 4 drinks right the way through the afternoon it was a complete nightmare. We ordered starters and main courses for four. However they could not get the order correct and delivered two of the starters with two of the main courses. When we pointed out the error and asked to receive all our starters at the same time the waitress could not have been ruder and in fact accused us making the error (even though our other 2 starters arrived whilst she was standing there). When our main courses arrived, they delivered two sirloin steaks instead of two fillet steaks. When we pointed out the error, instead of taking away the incorrect order we had three of the staff standing over us at the table arguing with us. We asked to speak to the manager but we were told he was too busy to speak to us as he was working in the kitchen. The bar supervisor, Dennis, did try to help and actually managed to get the order changed but by the time the two fillet steaks arrived, two of us had alrewady finished our main courses. We then discovered that the fillet steaks were served "well done" and not "medium" as ordered. We again asked to speak to the manager, who we were told was called Brett, but Dennis could not get him out of the kitchen as he wasc still too busy. However, after a quick walk around the pub we could see only three tables waiting for food. We were told that Brett thought that he would not be able to please us and that he would not serve us any more food. It's a shame we could not have discussed the issue face to face with him. We pais the bill (only paying for our starters) and left. We will go back and give them another try as we hope this was a one off but it was an awful waste of an afternoon and we found the Manager's attitude insulting.[Report for Removal] | Jeremy Davies Camberley Surrey |

| Wow! Well, I just had the best meal which I've had for a long time at the White Hart at Pirbright. Lovely pub, lovely surroundings, lovely people and excellent food. Very reasonable prices. I was recommended by a colleague at work and I can see why! I can see it being a nice place for a drink too, however I think it's more geared up for diners.[Report for Removal] | Louise Woking Surrey |

| Well, if we didn't laugh, about the experience of expecting a nice day out, we would cry. Pretentious surroundings. Inside the pub felt cold and draughty. Probably warmer outside than in. My drink, which was a soda and lime, was served with a straw. Was this because the glass stank? I smelt all around the outside of the glass, almost heaving. By that time we had ordered our meal. Full of expectation, we ordered slow roast Lamb. This arrived in a large pasta dish, luke warm, fat swimming all around it, frozen peas and new potatoes, roasted onions that you couldn't cut with a knife, a very, very large sprig of thyme. Two vegetable dishes arrived later, stone cold, under cooked stalks of cabbage, together with frozen peas again, wait for it, to be served with a teaspoon.Second vegetable dish ratatouille, we thought; burnt aubergine, overcooked onion, red pepper skins tough and nasty. Food orders had to be taken at the bar, food was then brought to the table. So imagine your worst cooking disaster, and then add a ten times worse than that, eating on cold plates, and paying top restaurant prices. We had to leave most of it. We didn't order a pudding, we didn't want the experience. We will not be going there again. We have never experienced a bad meal out anywhere - until today! [Report for Removal] | A. | We had a dreadful experience at the White Hart in Pirbright last night which has left us shocked and my 70 year old father quite shaken and upset. We eat out a lot, and have been to this pub to eat a couple of times. My parents popped into the bar at about 5.45pm to book a table for eight people for later that evening. They were told that they didn’t take bookings or reserve tables, we just had to turn up. Fair enough, it is only a pub and not a restaurant, so we arrived just before seven o’clock and found a table for eight and sat down. We started to look at the menus which were on the table and my father got up to go to the bar to order some drinks. A man suddenly came dashing up to us and said “ You can’t sit here this table is reserved, you’ve got to move” There was nothing on the table to say it was reserved and we all looked at him – a bit taken aback at his abruptness. My father, who was on his way to the bar, heard what was happening and came back to the table. He came up behind this man and tapped him on the shoulder and said “ But I thought you didn’t reserve tables. I came in here this afternoon and was told I couldn’t book” With this, the man swung round and told my Father to take his hands off him and told us once again to get off the table. We were told that this table was reserved and that was that - we had to move. No apology for the inconvenience, no “let me show you to another table”, nothing. He then just disappeared leaving two bemused waitresses staring after him and looking at us as we stood and moved back into the bar area. At this point we decided to leave rather than look for another table – we were all a bit shocked by this mans attitude. We later phoned the White Hart and asked to speak to the owner to complain about the way we were treated. Unbelievably the owner turned out to be this rude man who had spoken to us so appallingly. When we expressed our concern at his behaviour he told us “ Don’t ever come back” and put the phone down. We’ll take his advice and we won’t be coming back and I would advise any one else to do the same. [Report for Removal] | Karen Woking Surrey |

| Having arrived at 7.30pm we didn't get a table until 9.20pm so not being able to book is a disadvantage. Having sat down at a very dirty table, the last customer's plates were eventually cleared away, but the table was never wiped clean. We ordered our drinks from the waitress 3 of which she got wrong! we waited another 15 minutes trying to attract attention to place our food order, only to be told that we had to order at the bar - we tried to explain that we had been in the pub now for over 2/12 hrs, the staff were extremely indignant, and very off hand, bordering on being plain rude, they kept saying they were a pub and not a restaurent, we pointed out that they took the drinks order from the table, served food to table and cleared away, but nowhere did it say we had to order direct from the bar. However we ordered the food at the bar, we had to ask for the table to be wiped clean after the last customers. Food arrived and it was satisfactory. Our plates were cleared away very promptly, in fact while some of our friends were still eating!!! No sweet menu was offered, so we decided to buy another bottle of wine, by this time it was 11.00pm. We were served at the bar but within about 10mins we were asked to 'drink up' as they were closing, glasses were cleared from the table even though we hadn't finished the wine, we asked why the hurry and were told that the staff wanted to get home. We pointed out that perhaps they shouldn't have served a bottle of wine at 11pm if they wanted to be rid of us by 11.10pm. At another table some customers were having the same trouble in fact they had a pint of beer and a bottle of wine removed from their table! the attitude of the staff was appalling, and we asked to see the manager, only to be told he was upstairs asleep and it wasn't advisable to wake him. After trying to reason with the staff, it was decided that we should leave as it was upsetting us and clearly they were being far too arrogant to reason with, hence we will not be returning and indeed would not recommend The White Hart to anyone.[Report for Removal] | Claire Guildford Surrey |

| Its a shame you cant book as we had difficulty getting a table even though we arrived at 7pm. When we asked staff to help keep and eye out but they didnt come back to us. In the end we had to gather our own tables and chairs to create enough space for us. We ordered our food which was very nice but when asking for condiments we were disappointed that nothing came, we had to request this 3 times before someone eventually brought some over. Once we had finished it was late and last orders had been called. Unfortunately our Taxi was late on collecting us which we explained to the waitress who wasnt very happy that we were still sitting at our table, she then requested we stop drinking as time had been called when we told her we had she continued to check the bottle of wine that was still on the table (empty of course)to then leave it on the table and stormed off. Also we werent happy that she kept telling us to leave when some of the staff and friends were still sitting at the bar after just buying a drink! We explained this to her and she said it was a private party yet money was being exchanged. She was extremely rude and after going away she continued to come over again and again to ask us to leave. I am glad we werent an all female group as we were made to leave at 11.30 and stand outside to wait for our taxi that didnt come till 15min later. Also once we got outside we found another group of people still outside drinking. I was really let down by all this , we were made to feel rushed and victimised just because our taxi was late. I have heard good things about this pub and even though the food was good thats all i can say about it after the way we were treated.[Report for Removal] | Katie, Guildford Guildford Surrey |
